John chapter 4 is full of great wisdom and truth. There are two accounts, that of the woman at the well in Samaria and that of a nobleman, both teach us about faith and believing in Jesus Christ.

The woman at the well believed Jesus was the messiah, the son of God. We can see that she was saved at that moment because she went into the city testifying and bringing more people into believing in Jesus. This clearly teaches us that as believers in Christ we need to witness to others in order to bring them to the truth of Jesus Christ, thus fulfilling the Great Commission given to us in Matthew 28:19,20.
The nobleman was seeking Jesus because his son was sick at the point of death, then Jesus said unto him “Go thy wary; thy son liveth” this nobleman immediately believed Jesus’ words and went his way (v.50), believing his son was healed. On the way to his house his servant met him an told him “Thy son liveth” (v.51), and the servant told him the exact hour when his son’s fever left, it was the seventh hour, the same time when Jesus had told the nobleman that his son liveth. The nobleman had faith in Jesus words, even when he did not see the evidence of his son’s healing in that precise moment, Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”.
This same faith is the faith described in John 3:15 and 16, by faith we believe in an everlasting life in heaven once we depart from this world, we don’t see it right now, but some day we will.
